Electrocardiographic alterations produced by a decrease in plasma pH, bicarbonate and sodium as compared with those produced by an increase in potassium.

چکیده
IT HAS BECOME apparent, in clinical situations accompanied by hyperkalemia, that the electrocardiographic abnormalities and clinical symptomatology cannot be closely correlated with the plasma potassium concentration.' In many of these conditions, there occurs a coincident decrease in sodium, bicarbonate, and pH accompanied by variable disturbances in chloride, phosphate, and magnesium." The effects of potassium, calcium, and magnesium on the electrocardiogram have been well defined experimentally. However, the effects of bicarbonate, pH, and sodium, which are known to influence the electric potentials in isolated nerve and muscle have not been delineated in the intact organism. The present experiments in normal dogs were undertaken (1) to define the electrocardiographic changes which occur as a result of disturbances of those ions known to be altered in clinical situations associated with hyperkalemia, and (2) to correlate these

Acute therapy for hyperkalemia with the combined regimen of bicarbonate and beta(2)-adrenergic agonist (salbutamol) in chronic renal failure patients.
This study was aimed to evaluate the efficacy of combination therapy of bicarbonate and salbutamol for hyperkalemia in 9 hemodialysis patients. Simultaneous administration of 8.4% sodium bicarbonate (i.v., 2 mEq/kg) for 1/2 hour and salbutamol (15 mg) in nebulized form for 10 min was compared with treatment modality of either bicarbonate or salbutamol alone. Infusion of sodium bicarbonate induc...
متن کاملInvestigation of the effect of electrolyte on acoustical behaviour of ceramic coatings produced by method Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) on titanium
In this paper, titanium oxide coating (TiO2) was produced on titanium alloy Ti6Al4V by Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) Method. Sodium Silicate (Na2SiO3) and Sodium Aluminate (NaAlO2) based electrolytes were selected in PEO process. The effects of concentration of Sodium Aluminate (0, 2.5, 5, 7.5, and 10 g/L) on the microstructure and acoustical behaviour of the formed coatings were studied....

Severe acidosis and hyperpotassemia treated with sodium bicarbonate infusion.
H YPERPOTASSEMIA is a serious and often fatal complication of advaniced reiial insufficiency. Its principal lethal action is its depressant effect on the myo(.ardiuin.1 2 In uremia, hyperpotassemia is frequently accompanied by acidosis, hyponatreniia, hypoealeemia, alterations in body water, and changes in cellular imetabolism.3 Correction of these associated electrolyte abn orinalities is ofte...
متن کاملStudy of cation imbalance in patients of malaria
Introduction: During its life cycle, malaria parasite has to traverse successfully through widely diverse environmental milieu of mosquito mid gut, RBC cytosol and human circulatory system where it is exposed to dramatic changes of extracellular milieu in terms of pH, osmolarity and ionic constituents. Therefore, the aim of this study was to examine the possible changes in the cations (Na+, K+,...
